Electrophysiology of neurons releasing modulatory neurotransmitters: focus on the dopaminergic neuron

Dr. Alexey Kuznetsov, Associate Professor, Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, IUPUI, Visiting Professor, ENS

Abstract:

Four hour short course included two lectures and two discussion sessions.

Dopamine neurotransmission has been found to play a role in addictive behavior and is altered in psychiatric disorders. Dopaminergic (DA) neurons have distinctive electrophysiological properties, and these properties apply to other neurons releasing modulatory neurotransmitters. I present a review of established facts, recent advances and controversies about the properties of the neuron.
