An fMRI study of speech perception in post-stroke patients

Olga Martynova, PhD, Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology RAS, Moscow

FMRI is a perspective approach for evaluation of language impairment in post-stroke patients with sensory aphasia. However it is still unclear how the extent of fMRI-activation reflects language and speech perception, particularly in the damaged brain. The lecture will be devoted to the recent study aimed to find a correlation between severity of impairment established using the neurophysiological testing of speech perception and the fMRI data in patients with sensory aphasia using fMRI-analog of mismatch negativity (MMN), a component of evoked potentials is well known as index of auditory discrimination (Naatanen et al, 2004).
